The Timemore Black Mirror BASIC 3 is a re-engineered precision coffee scale that improves on its predecessor in every way that matters: a chassis that is 25% lighter and 35% more compact, faster response times, improved measurement stability, and a 1600mAh battery that runs for up to 24 hours on a single charge. It is the same core tool coffee enthusiasts have relied on, now meaningfully refined for daily brewing at home or on the road.

Electromagnetic shielding delivers stable, consistent weight measurements that do not drift or fluctuate under normal brewing conditions. Live flow-rate monitoring gives you real-time feedback on how your pour is tracking, and three dedicated timing settings, Regular, Pour-Over, and Espresso, let you tailor the scale's behaviour to your brew method. A newly added multifunction slider makes toggling between those settings fast and intuitive.

The full-coverage silicone pad protects the scale's surface from spills and provides a secure, non-slip base for your server or portafilter. IPX3 splash resistance adds another layer of protection for the top surface during active brewing. USB-C recharging keeps the workflow modern, and the LED battery indicator means you always know where you stand on charge.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About the Timemore Black Mirror BASIC 3 Coffee Scale

What are the three timing modes on the BASIC 3?

The BASIC 3 includes three timing settings: Regular, Pour-Over, and Espresso. Each mode is calibrated to the characteristics of its respective brewing method, giving you a more relevant timing and flow-rate experience depending on what you are brewing. Switch between them using the multifunction slider.

What does live flow-rate monitoring do?

Live flow-rate monitoring tracks how fast liquid is flowing into your vessel in real time as you pour. For pour-over brewing in particular, it helps you maintain a consistent pour speed, which directly affects extraction evenness and flavour consistency. The BASIC 3 displays this alongside weight for a complete picture of your brew as it happens.

Is the BASIC 3 waterproof?

The top surface of the BASIC 3 has IPX3 splash resistance, meaning it can handle light splashes and drips from normal brewing. However, the USB-C charging port is not waterproof, and the scale should never be submerged in liquid.

How does the BASIC 3 compare to its predecessor?

The BASIC 3 is 25% lighter and 35% more compact than its predecessor, with faster response times, improved measurement stability through electromagnetic shielding, and the addition of a multifunction slider for quick mode switching. The 1600mAh battery and 24-hour runtime are also upgrades over the previous model.
